I want to change my citizenship and address details in the PAN Card? Is this something that you are looking for? If yes then this is the right article for you.
Every citizen of India, and foreign companies based in India needs to have an updated PAN card. Why? Because, the law of the land says that if you would earn money in India, you need to give a percentage of it to the government as tax. This PAN number is issued by the income tax department, which issues this number embossed on a laminated card. It is basically a ten digit code consisting of both alphabets and numerals.
The PAN number is a really useful tool indeed since it is required for carrying out pretty much any major financial transaction (exceeding the sum of fifty thousand rupees). It is also required because it serves as an identity proof. So if you’ve changed your address or something of that sort, you definitely need to make sure that your PAN card reflects the change.
You can do so online by visiting the Government’s website. The procedure is a simple one really, you need to fill in a form and then submit it. The form is called the PAN Request Change form. Right at the bottom of the screen you will find a drop down menu with the forms, just choose the correct one. Then you need to tick the boxes next to the details you want changed. For instance, you need to mark the box which is to the left of the column that indicates “Change Address”. Apart from that you need to fill in all your personal details correctly too.
To process this form, you need to pay just ninety four rupees. This can be easily taken care of with the help of your credit or debit card. Once down, you’ll get a confirmation receipt on the screen. What you need to do is print it out – this is known as the acknowledgement.
This acknowledgement form required you to fix a recent passport size photo on it and fill in some details. Then staple this form with the hard copy of the receipt. This needs to be submitted to the Government authorities at the office. When you do go make sure to carry proof of:
- Your current address – carry something like a government utility bill, like an electricity bill or a telephone bill.
- Your identity – You can take your driver’s license or your passport. Or even birth certificate.
Make a copy of these documents plus a photocopy of your existing PAN card whose details you want changed. These documents need to be posted to the office, which is based in Pune. The address is:
National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL),
3rd floor, Sapphire Chambers,
Near Baner Telephone Exchange,,
Pune — 411045.
Another thing you need to write on the envelope before sending it off is “Application for PAN change request – 881010200000097”. This will let them know what the contents of the envelope are all about without they even open it. Trust me, they will really appreciate the gesture and might even process your documents faster than is customary!
So how long does it take to get your Pan details changed? If all goes well, the procedure takes about fifteen days only. This is also dependent on the amount of time it takes for your credit card payment to get processed.
Instead of choosing credit or debit cards as a mode of payment, if you feel comfortable with checks you can use that as well. Be sure to send the check in the envelope you address to the NSDL. That’s how easy it is to get your Pan details changed.
